They say you learn the most about a resort when things don't go according to plan. Between a rainy start and a cancelled flight home due to DFW weather, our Roatan trip could have been a bust. Instead, the team at Anthony’s Key Resort turned it into a highlight.
From the dive masters busing us across the island to find clear water, to the front office upgrading us to a Key Deluxe room during our travel delay, their hospitality was world-class. They even allowed us to dive for three extra days to make up for the time lost to the weather.
I also have to mention the dining. I knew going in that they didn't serve the typical buffet style, and I’ll admit I was initially worried about missing that variety. Those worries were completely unfounded. In 25 years of diving, this is some of the best food and service I’ve ever experienced. The portions were beyond my ability to finish (and believe me, I tried!), and the menu variety was excellent.
Anthony's Key now holds a special place in our hearts—not just for the beautiful dives, but for how they treated us like family. Michele and I will definitely be back!

This is an amazing place to stay in Roatan. It has a very unique location. Half the rooms are on a small sandy island the other half is in a rain forest on a hill. Both are beautiful. It has everything, a nice pool, a private beach, restaurant bar. The diving infrastructure and logistics is top notch. When we come back to Roatan we want to stay here again. It’s a gem!

My husband and I are not divers, which was a surprise to staff and guests, since apparently that’s why most visit the resort. It made days even better in our opinion because that meant fewer guests around the beach and pool. We enjoyed the quiet relaxation, the spa, the gorgeous views from room 31. The staff were spectacular, and the resort accommodated us without notice for an extra night after flights home were cancelled. We did get out for a snorkel and that was a wonderful experience.
We highly recommend AKR.

Having been to other resorts that have an all inclusive feature (AKR), Anthony's Key Resort is really unbelievable.
The Staff:
What ever you may need, they will get it. Whatever you forgot; they have it and everyone aims to please you
The check in:
They take all your bags to your bungalow whether the overlook or the island. You then take all your diving gear to the locker room with a lock and key.
The accomodations:
The rooms are wonderful, clean and well cared for. They are spacious with wonderful decks and hammocks. Be careful as you might take a nap ..lol
The Food:
Off the menu with most everything you could want. This is no buffet style. You receive what you ask for. Get to know who serves you and take care of them.
The Diving:
There were heavy rains for the first couple days. The ocean was choppy and every dive worth it. The boats are amazing and they assist you with everything. A word of advice: A diver kept blowing through safety stops. It was interesting to find he was shut down. If you dive please don't just assume; get involved with your Divemaster as they rule. Listen; as it's your safety that counts. Trips here at AKR are a trip of a lifetime....take your vacation here.

If you have the chance to book a dolphin excursion here, do it!
While we didn't stay at the beautiful resort, we booked the Dolphin Swim and Snorkel excursion through our NCL cruise. We had Trainer Jason and the dolphin Sandy, and both were fantastic.
This excursion is a step above a standard "encounter"—it includes both a close interaction and an open swim with the dolphins. They take professional photos, but we appreciated that they also allowed us to take some of our own photos during the trip.
What made this experience exceptional was the staff's caring and humane treatment of the dolphins:
-The dolphins not only thrive in the beautiful Bailey's Key preserve but are also allowed to go out into the ocean, returning to their preserve on their own.
-They are not forced to work. If a dolphin's mood is off or they aren't feeling it, they are not required to perform that day.
This is a must-do in Roatan. The grounds are gorgeous, the dolphins are amazing, and if you're lucky, you might even meet one of their cute resort cats!
